This morning was rough. After making breakfast, we started the last climb to Kennedy Meadows. It was a 2500′ climb that was mostly in a burn area. It was hot again, and this climb used up the last of our motivation. By mid afternoon, we had made it to the south fork of the Kern river. It was amazing to see so much water! I jumped in and drank a couple of liters right away. After the river, I passed the 700 mile mark, although I didn’t see any sign for it. I made it to the Kennedy Meadows general store by the evening. Kennedy Meadows marks the unofficial end to the southern California desert and the beginning of the Sierra Nevada mountains. There are a lot of things that I really enjoyed about the desert, but I am ready for the start of the Sierras with Janel!
