The dramatic change in scenery continued today. We spent most of the day hiking through colorful volcanic rock. The rocks ranged from red to blue to white to even a golden color. The water availability has also changed considerably. We had gotten used to crossing a clear mountain stream every half mile or less in the high Sierra, Now, the streams are fewer and farther in between. It is almost like being back in the desert. We also watched a wildfire off in the distance. It was way off in the distance and won’t be affecting the PCT, but it is a reminder how dry this area is.
