We started today hiking back and forth with a few section hikers we had met a few days earlier. Eric hikes a major section of trail every year for a week or so. This year he is hiking from Tuolumne Meadows to Echo Lake at Lake Tahoe. The Paradocs were also doing a long section of trail. They are two retired doctors from Washington (do you get it?). We really enjoyed hiking with them throughout the day. It was a pretty hot day today. As we were approaching Carson Pass, we passed Frog Lake right off the trail. It was way too inviting to pass up. Eric was already swimming when we got there, and we jumped right in (well, slowly eased in). It wasn’t long after we got out that we wondered if the map should have called it Dog Lake as group after group of day hikers and their dogs came to the lake for a swim. Oh well, we got there first. At Carson Pass, there is a road and a visitor center. When we got there, the visitor center was closed, but they had given Eric a hat full of fresh fruit for us hikers. Then, a guy in the parking lot gave us a couple of ice cold beers. I wish I could remember his name, but he had thru-hiked in 2007. It was a great day for trail magic. Thanks everybody!
