I made a big breakfast this morning and got on the trail early. I couldn’t beat the heat though, as it was already sweltering by about 9am. Despite the heat, the first half of the day was still pretty amazing as we walked the top of a ridge. There were great views of Mt. Shasta on one side and endless mountains on the other side. Up on the ridge, I passed another rattlesnake who was not pleased with me. I think that is seven or maybe eight now for this trail. After coming off the ridge, I descended to the McCloud River. I ran into a bunch of other hikers making camp at Ash Camp by the river. Ewok was camping there too. I’m pretty sure I hadn’t seen him since Kennedy Meadows. I decided to call it a day and jump into the river for a swim. It was cold, but worth it.
