The hostel in Etna has some loner bikes for the hikers to use, so Oak and I rode them to go down to the bakery at the end of town for breakfast. It had been a long time since I had been on a bike, but it was like, well, riding a bike. After that, I sat around with Green Card waiting for our ride to come. Mr. Green picked us up in the afternoon and drove us up to Ashland, Oregon. Janel and I had hiked with Mr. Green a little in the Sierras. It was pretty obvious when we were hiking with him that he had a pretty serious foot injury, and it turns out, he had broken a bone in his ankle. Now he is using his time off to help out other hikers by shuttling them around the recent fires. After getting to Ashland, I got a room at the Ashland Motel and met up with Captain and Shutter and the Leisure Tour (Sideshow, Shuffle, That Guy, The Byrd, and Salty Dog). I hadn’t seen the Leisure Tour since before Lake Tahoe. As usual, I got to hang out with them for a few hours and then they got back out to the trail.

  1. I have to ask based on your pictures – at this ‘Hostel’ do you share a bed with strange men?

      1. We are all living vicariously through your blog posts and drop everything to read them. You didn’t answer the question so I’ll assume that I already know the answer.
