In the morning, we found out where the mosquitoes had been hiding since we left the Sierras. It seems they all moved up to the forests of Oregon. We were still in some dry country and had to dip out of the very shallow Summit Lake where we found a lot of tiny swimmers in the water. It looked like the filter caught all of those little guys, I think. There were tons of huckleberries at the lake though, so it was still a good side trip. After the lake we got into some light rain as we passed the 1800 mile mark. We got to our final water source for the day at Snow Lakes. There was a fire burning down below the ridge there and it made it pretty smoky. We weren’t in any danger, though, since we knew that fire was mostly contained, unlike some of the other fires further south.
