We left our hotel and got back onto the trail at the respectable time of 7:30 in the morning. We soon entered the Alpine Lakes Wilderness and began climbing 3000′ up to the ridge where these alpine lakes were. The mountains on this side of the pass are much more jagged and rugged looking. We ate lunch at Ridge Lake and after a lot more ups and downs, passed Alaska Lake and Joe Lake. The lakes in this section are all a deep blue-green color. We only managed 21.5 miles before it was getting dark. I have a feeling that the steep, rocky up and downs and the shorter days are really going to cut down on our mileage for the rest of Washington.
