Well, we are PCT hikers once again.  We had flown into the Redding, CA airport yesterday and taken the Shasta Shuttle up to Mt Shasta City.  Today, we woke up and ate breakfast at the Black Bear Diner.  Forgetting that we hadn’t actually hiked all at the way up to Mt Shasta, we both ordered way too much food.  Maybe our hiker hunger will come back by Ashland.  We stood outside the diner for a few minutes and a nice guy named Shankar offered to take us all the way to the Parks Creek Trailhead, 35 minutes up a windy mountain road.  Last year I got off the trail about 7 miles north of the trailhead, but we were happy to rehike that seven miles rather than try bushwhack 1500′ up the creekbed.  We both felt great and we felt at home being back on the PCT.  By the end of the day, we had 16 miles in.  The water was flowing everywhere, which was a huge change from last year when I was here.
