We got on trail early today to tackle the first big climb of 2700′. We were surrounded by fourteeners and pretty soon we were watching storm clouds building behind them. After a second big ascent of 1400′, we watched as a thunderstorm dumped rain in the valley we were just in. We literally walked around the thunderstorm and didn’t get a drop of rain. In the afternoon, we passed the 200 mile mark for the trip. The miles seem to be going by much quicker now. On our way towards the next valley, we passed two good campsites and then were kicking ourselves as we couldn’t find anything decent to camp on. Finally, we got lucky and found a flat spot by a rock outcropping before the final big descent into the valley.
