We knew this morning’s uphill was going to be steep, but either we suddenly fell out of shape, or this was one of the steepest parts of the trail.  We both decided we were worn out and hungry at 10:30 and stopped for lunch.  No rules on the CT!  After we created the ridge, storm clouds were building and before long it was hailing.  We found a spruce tree and hid underneath it until the hail slowed down.  Once it looked a little calmer, we hiked to the bottom of the canyon under a light rain.  We decided the best option was to wait under the roof of the privy until the rain stopped.  After that the rain kept threatening, but it never rained again.  Towards the end of the day, we met some mountain bikers on their first trip.  So far they weren’t enjoying it.
