We got out as early as we could this morning given the cold and new snow/hail. We had 18 miles to hike to get below 12,000 ft and back into the trees. The terrain was tough with lots of ups and downs, and the snow melt had made the trail wet and muddy. The skies looked threatening all day, but we only got into some light rain and hail. A couple of miles before we dropped to the treeline, the CDT split off and went down. We had to go up before we went down. On the way up the clouds turned black again, and we got chased down to the treeline. We made it down, but got poured on before we could get the tent up.
